According to Wikipedia: vector graphics is the use of geometrical primitives such as points, curves, lines and shapes or polygon, which are based on mathematical equations to present images in computer graphics.
Computer display is made up from grids of small rectangular cells which are called pixels and every picture is made from these pixels. The smaller and closer the pixels are, the better the quality of image but in doing so the file takes more space as compared to a low quality image. In vector graphics, the back ground is adjusted via mathematical calculations in such a manner that the quality of picture remains the same. It adjusts the screen so that picture quality is not compromised.
Vector graphics are best to use when it comes to designing be it logos, banners, website layouts or any sort of background images.
These days’ vector images are used frequently because of high resolution and picture quality. As compared to bitmap, the quality of printing output of a vector image is much better.
Most commonly used designing applications that support vector graphics include Corel Draw, Macromedia Freehand and Adobe Illustrator.
Thus, vectors graphics are really amazing and will come really handy if you want to make a great piece of logo design, banner design or any other web based graphic.
